We had out of town guests coming who would be arriving after 7:30pm and in no mood to go to restaurant after being in a car all day. Tonight, we ordered 2 lbs of beef burnt ends, 1 pint of coleslaw, 1 pint of baked beans, and an order of fries (for snacking on the way home). Ordering carryout from Jack Stack will fulfill that need or desire. Sometimes you just want great food in the comfort of your own home. We will be looking into having some Jack Stack 'cue shipped to us. We were lamenting the fact that we had no Jack Stack or anything like it within many miles of our hometown, before we'd even quite finished our meals. It's one of the best meals, and dining experiences, we've ever had. If you like barbecue, even just a little, you really should make it a point to check this place out. Her service - like the food - could not have been any better. Despite the fact that the restaurant was quite busy, our server consistently took a good deal of time with us, welcoming us as first-timers, giving us great insight into various menu items (and offering a few recommendations of her own along the way), and attending to us throughout our visit closely and warmly. We've paid more for less food at far lesser quality at a couple of other barbecue places. It's not cheap, as some others have noted, but the portions were large and we felt like we absolutely got our money's worth. Even our third-grader, a very picky eater always more inclined to grilled cheese than to anything else, tried the various meats and sides with increasing enthusiasm as she found each thing (even the things about which she was most skeptical) to suit her tastes quite well. Every single bite of food we had was delicious. And the cheesy corn bake, cheesy potato bake, cole slaw, and baked potato were all perfect as well. The burnt ends, sliced beef, ribs, pulled pork and other meats were all perfect, either with or without the excellent sauce offerings. At our table, we had a large variety of meat and a variety of the side dishes as well. But to bash a place merely because it's found so much success and is now building on that success is, in this instance, backward. If they were now microwaving everything for lack of time to do it the "real" way, that would be one thing. Word is that some of the barbecue "purists" malign Jack Stack because it's now a growing chain that produces its menu offerings en masse. She said the barbecue couldn't be beat and that the place, while not exactly cheap, was a good value and a great experience. We came here without the benefit of seeing the TripAdvisor reviews but rather on the recommendation of the housekeeper at the hotel we were staying in across the river in Independence. Well, not quite all - this is a place where the individual reviews themselves are, despite their abundance, well worth sampling. For this place - Jack Stack in Overland Park - the fact that it's TripAdvisor's highest-rated single place to eat in Overland Park (among hundreds and hundreds of places) really says it all. In looking at such reviews on TripAdvisor, we really just focus (at places with a healthy number of reviews posted) on the total breakdown of ratings as opposed to individual reviews. We have been served by a very nice, respective and caring server Christopher ! He has been so kind and nice with a lot of patience with our boys.Because it's near-impossible to account for personal taste, we always take others' restaurant reviews in particular with a grain of salt, and expect ours to be taken with a similar grain of salt. Management/ Nick thank you for following up with customers concerns AND addressing them right away! I appreciate the response. But on our way out! The server follows us up to the car and asks for a tip portion for the to go order Really!!! He actually stood by the door and asked us to sign on the receipt for another extra Tip!!! We actually thought we had left something at the table or the card didn’t go through! It was so embarrassing that we told him that’s not right he cursed us before our 8 and 10yrs old children and left! We then ordered a baby rib to go and paid. This is one of the most favorite places to eat! It’s been our family place in Kansas! It’s unfortunate that after serving us a great meal we tipped the server for a great job well done.
